More Discounts, Less Stock at the Tibi Sample Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by day two of the Tibi sample sale this afternoon, and were surprised to find no lines, inside or outside. The sale was relatively calm, but yesterday's chaos was obvious: the selection of samples, as well as yellow and orange tagged merchandise, (which are marked $15 and $25) were hit pretty hard.

You'll still find one table of $25 samples and another of the $25-and-under apparel, but the stock is much smaller and most of the samples we found today were one-offs and damages. On the bright side, many items were marked down an additional $25 to $50. Cocktail dresses are now $125, all outerwear is $100, and shorts, skirts, and knits are $50 each.

The staff is restocking throughout the sale, but we found that sizing is much more limited than yesterday: most of what we found was above a size 8, with many pieces (dresses especially) available in only sizes 12 and 14. We overheard one shopper complaining that she was "having trouble finding anything in [her] size," so be prepared to dig a bit if you're small.

Dresses from the label's lower-priced 4.Collective line (which makes up a majority of the inventory) are now $75 to $85, and anyone spending over $500 will get one for free. Other dresses available include long-sleeved shifts ($100), metallic leopard-print cocktail styles for $125, and summery chiffon styles ($100).

A lot of the shorts are sold out, but most of what's left are marked down to $25, including neon green floral pairs and checkered Bermuda styles. There are still a good amount of pants available, including leather-and-denim jeans and pleated silky lounge styles, both for $50. The selection of skirts looked to be more or less the same as yesterday, with trumpet-hem styles and denim minis available for $50 each.

Tops—including sweaters, tanks, and tees—make up the majority of the sale now, with both summer and winter styles available. We found that the selection of silk camis ($75) was still strong, with sequined, plaid, and solid options available.

Sweaters are still plentiful, including the Eiffel Tower-adorned and heart-print styles for $50 each, and we noticed some new shirts that we didn't see yesterday, including knit shell tanks for $75 and boxy leather tees for $150.

Shoes were also restocked—there are several more styles than there were yesterday, including strappy flat sandals and snakeskin booties for $75. All flats, boots, and past season shoes are now $75, while current-season heels are now $100. The embellished Liv style is the most expensive pair, clocking in at $125.

We'd recommend heading in now if you're still hoping to find samples or under-$25 garments; we don't expect there to be many at all left tomorrow. There will be further markdowns tomorrow morning, and the staff will continue to restock throughout the sale, which ends at 5pm tomorrow.—Gillian Fuller
