The five-day Hudson Jeans sample sale at 225 Fifth Avenue officially begins today, with denim pants, jackets, and shorts for up to 80% off. We hit up the friends and family sale last night, and were excited to find seriously steep discounts: nothing is over $100, which is pretty good considering retail prices range up to $1,195.
Women's denim makes up a little more than half the sale, with sizes ranging from 23 through 32. Most pairs are $60, with the exception of the Tamara and Nico styles, which are $75. We found great everyday jeans, including the Beth bootcut, the Bacara crops, and the Leigh boyfriend (all $60), plus funkier varities, like palm-tree photo printed Nico skinnies for $75 and stretchy pastel pairs for $60.
One rack holds women's shorts, all marked $40. Most of the shorts are various shades of blue denim, including clean-cut cropped styles, destroyed pairs, longer boyfriend shorts, and light-wash short-shorts. There are a few colored pairs—like coral, yellow, and green camouflage—but not many.
The guy's section includes jeans in different washes and cuts in sizes 28 through 42. The variety here definitely isn't as vast as the women's section, but there are still plenty of styles to choose from. Most pairs are marked $70, excluding the Sartor ($90). Guys will find Byron straight-legs and Ace ankle straights, both for $70. Also available is a spread of men's denim jackets for $60, although they're all the same style and dark-wash denim.
There may be additional markdowns, but there's no solid plan as of yet. There's a makeshift fitting room, but it's fairly small. All styles and sizes will be restocked throughout the duration of the sale, which runs through Sunday, May 25th.—Gillian Fuller
