The development of Williamsburg's North Sixth Street marches on! And it's to the tune of La Marseillaise: French chain Maje just set up shop on the right next to sister brand Sandro, two months after Urban Outfitters staked its claim on the block with the concept store Space Ninety 8.
Unlike Urban, who dedicated the first floor of their Williamsburg outpost to independent designers (and plopped a bar on the roof), Maje is sticking to its formula—which means there aren't any front-of-store dreamcatchers handcrafted by local artisans, but there are plenty of perfectly cropped leather jackets and fit-and-flare neoprene dresses ready for a cocktail or three at The Ides.
With Williamsburg featured as a daytrip in nearly every New York City guidebook, maybe Maje and Sandro's owners are banking on The Wythe's steady stream of European tourists. Or the locals who aren't afraid to wear the brand's white leather studded sandals on the dancefloor at Music Hall of Williamsburg, Tecate spills be damned.
