The James Perse sample sale started at 10am this morning, and we checked out last night's preview and we can confirm that, as usual, the sale offers wall-to-wall soft cotton basics. Discounts aren't rock bottom, but compared to the retail prices you're definitely saving some cash: prices start at $15 for tank tops (which normally retail between $50 and $85) and top off at $100 for cotton jackets (usually $350+)

Other deals include cashmere sweaters for $75 (from $295+) and a ton of short and long sleeve tees in a variety of colors and styles, priced at $30. There are also racks of shirts and pants ($60) and dresses ($65) for sale, but we have to admit that we've seen lower prices in the clearance section of major department stores.

The James Perse Yosemite collection for men and women is toward the back of the sale; you'll find shorts ($40), long sleeve crewnecks ($30), hooded sweatshirts ($50) and women's yoga pants ($60). If you're looking for comfortable activewear, these are clothes you want to live in.

Womenswear occupies most of the floor, but a vast amount of menswear also makes it a worthwhile trip for the guys. Pricing is almost the same as women: Polos are $40, novelty tops are $45 and pants are $60. We saw a ton of cargo pants and shorts, long sleeve tees, and sweatshirts.

Sizes range between 0 to 4, and we saw a lot in sizes 0 and 1 (note that in James Perse sizing, a 0 is an extra small and a 4 is an extra large.) This time around, there's no childrenswear, swimwear, footwear, or accessories. We saw a handful of sample pieces here and there but they were priced the same as the regular overstock items. We did also see a few white tees with small makeup stains.

If you need to, this is definitely a sale where you can stock up on basics There is a dressing room in the back for women only, and cash and credit are both accepted. The sale runs through Sunday, and more restocking and markdowns near the end of sale are expected. See the photo gallery for a complete price list.—Hsini
