Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
First comes the closing, then comes the wrecking ball. After the Rizzoli Bookstore shuttered last month, in spite of a last minute push for landmark status, The Real Deal reports that plans have been approved for its entire building to be demolished, along with two adjacent structures.
The buildings are being cleared for what will likely be high-rise condos, which have been springing up (literally) in that neighborhood. If you didn't have a chance to get into the bookstore before it closed, take a photo tour of the gorgeous space.
