Artist Damien Hirst is bringing his publishing company's retail outpost stateside. Other Criteria, a shop that carries original prints and editions, books, jewelry, and artist-designed home goods like rugs and vases, will be opening in a two-story Broome Street space on Tuesday, May 6th.
While the ground level will be focused on retail, the lower level will be reserved for exhibitions, reading, and screenings. "We're eager to have the new store be a gathering place for creativity in addition to being a source for collectible art editions and objects," said Jason Beard, Other Criteria's creative director.
To celebrate the opening, Hirst has created a limited silkscreen print edition of Mickey Mouse, rendered as one of his "spot paintings." A portion of the proceeds from these sales will benefit the UK-based charity Kids Company.
