Spotcheck: Flash Sales and Mobs at the Elie Tahari Sample Sale

The Elie Tahari sample sale is technically on its third day now (if you include the Gilt City preview day), so when we stopped by shortly before lunch time today we were not expecting much. Boy, were we mistaken.

First off, they had just started a one hour flash sale: all shoes were $20. Couple that with a fully-stocked selection of spring-friendly clothing across a full range of sizes and new markdowns, and clearly Elie Tahari knows how to get Midtown shoppers through hump day.

Among the $79 day and work dresses we found basic sheaths and leather-paneled numbers, floral and watercolor peplum dresses, and shawl collar jersey dresses. The selection of $99 cocktail dresses includes chiffon, lace detailing, and sequins. Separates feature knits as low as $9 for basic tees, and all bottoms for $39. We particularly loved the neon tipped pieces, the crocheted tunics, and the candy colored cotton tweeds.

There's also a hefty selection of jackets and leathers. All jackets are now $79, which includes blazers, tweed cropped jackets, spring windbreakers, and moto styles. The leathers are still at a variety of price points, but it seems like flash sales are par for the course for this sale: they had just started a $129 for all leathers flash sale when we were heading out.

The selection of shoes, handbags, and accessories was limited but solid, and relegated to a far back corner in the mezzanine level. There are several racks for the guys toward the back of the mezzanine level as well, but during peak hours it is probably not worth the hassle to stop by. The lunchtime crowd of business casual shoppers was in full effect, which caused a pretty big bottle neck at the fitting rooms and checkout counters.
