Brooklyn Heights fitness studio Xtend Barre has added a smattering of new classes to its roster and expanded its weekly schedule. Some of the latest are a barre-based class that uses a Pilates stick for extra resistance, a barre/Pilates fusion class, and a 75-minute Barrecamp class that incorporates more abs and more stretching—in case a full hour of arm weights and pliés isn't quite enough.
For new moms, there's also Xtend Barre Babies On Board, where babies hang out in a bjorn, and mom tones her bod (safely, of course).
If you've never tried Xtend, know that it's a little dancier than Pure Barre, Physique 57, Exhale, etc., and you'll do a little bit more actual ballet (think more Tandu, Plié, Passe Releve). It's also done on a hardwood floor, instead of a carpet.
