Whether you're planning for a tropical trip or banking on a staycation in the city this summer, there's a huge selection for everyone at the Zero + Maria Cornejo sample sale. The steep discounts averaging 70% to 80% off retail drew a big crowd this morning, and with mandatory coat check there was a bit of a wait to get in. However, it was well worth it.

In the corner of the sale are bikinis ($40 per piece), bright printed silk coverups ($175), and cotton dresses fit for the tropics ($350). Other spring and summer pieces include graphic print and jacquard shorts for $175, knee length silk dresses in photo real prints for $350, and leather sandals in white and bright orange for $200.

There are two racks of actual fit samples, which is where we found the best deals but also a lot of damaged styles, so be sure to double check the pieces you pick from the sample rack. We saw styles including an asymmetrical knit tee for as low as $25, and a red lacquered basket weave cropped jacket for $200.

There were racks set up with shoes hanging in bags and organized by size. It was hard to see them, but easy to find your size. Booties are priced at $250, while the suede knee high boots are $400. Most of the shoes are in great condition, which wasn't always the case at previous sales.

One full rack of jumpsuits and gowns is only $450, marked more than 60% off their retail prices (which are normally well over $1000) and feature dresses with feather skirts, white Grecian gowns, black jumpsuits, and full length skirts from the fall 2013 runway.

Even though it's hard to think about getting back into winter coats, the large rack of outerwear was popular among shoppers, with all coats marked down to $550. Among the racks are signature cocoon shapes, streamlined wool and leather mixed jackets, and jacquard coats from the fall 2013 collection. There's a small rack of leather and shearling pieces, with black shearling vests for $1600, leather shrugs for $350, and leather pants and skirts for $475.

We saw one small rack of menswear, but there were no men at the sale, which was good because there were no fitting rooms either. Shoppers stripped down in front of the full length mirrors scattered around the sale. The salespeople were eager to aid in finding sizes and offered racks to hang your clothes on while you continue to shop—it reminded us of the great customer service in their boutiques. The wi-fi was running slower than normal, so the line to check out was growing when we left the sale around noon.
