The Tess Giberson sample sale opened at noon today to a small but loyal crowd of shoppers and big discounts at the Nolita boutique. We were excited to see a few select samples from the current spring 2014 collection, including maritime striped sweaters and open knit styles. As promised, the prices were up to 80% off, with the bulk of the merchandise under $100.

While most of it consists of actual samples (in true sample size small), we did see a few styles in varying sizes, including leather pants and asymmetrical silk dresses. Among the two long racks of separates, we found silk tops for $80, linen and silk skirts for $60, and lightweight novelty knit sweaters in bright colors and white for $90.

The items priced higher than $100 are worth the money, like intricate hand knit and cashmere sweaters for $150 and an intarsia color block sweater dress for $275. Leather pieces in true Tess Giberson style include a little black leather shift dress and patchwork leather pants for $350 and form fitting leather and suede skirts for $200.

Easy spring silk dresses, like shirt dresses and asymmetrical styles, are only $100. All non-leather pants and shorts are $70 and include wide leg white linen pants, skinny black pants—some with leather insets, others with curve hugging seams.

An unexpected treat, the custom Woman by Common Projects shoes that were worn for their runway show are for sale from $150-$250. Be sure to look through the photo gallery for a closer look at the selection.

There's one private fitting room with a maximum of three pieces allowed in at a time, but some shoppers chose to change in front of the mirror outside the fitting room. While there was a mention of new styles being introduced later in the sale, there was no word on further markdowns. The sale runs from noon to 8pm tonight and tomorrow, from 11am to 7pm on Saturday, and from 12pm to 6pm on Sunday at 97 Crosby Street.
