Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Before the end of the year, New York City will see three major store openings from brands making their first debut in the United States: The Kooples, & Other Stories, and COS. The first (and most expensive) is French ready-to-wear, and the second two are both share a parent company—the Swedish behemoth H&M. After the jump, see where each store is opening, when you can expect it to arrive, and why it's worth getting excited.

↑ The Kooples
What: French ready-to-wear. The three brothers behind the brand are the sons of Tony and Georgette Elicha, the founders of Comptoir des Cotonniers.
Where: 401 West 14th Street. The brand is subletting the space from Moschino through September of 2018.
When: No opening date has been announced yet, but signage is already up.
Why It's Exciting: The Kooples vibe is modern French mixed with London's classic rock 'n' roll scene. Think easy luxe basics, leather motorcycle jackets, tailored blazers in a range of fabrications and prints, casual sets (like matching leopard print shorts and blazers), unisex styles, and a sportier side collection.

What: The H&M-owned label is great for Céline/Jil Sander styles on a budget (relatively speaking).
Where: 129 Spring Street in Soho, in a building that's totally haunted.
When: The original opening timeline was this spring, but that's since been pushed back until this fall.
Why It's Exciting: The premium H&M brand has developed a cult following among the NYC fashion industry—when they're on vacation, that is. The debut of COS in the U.S. will also coincide with its local e-commerce arrival.

What: Newcomer & Other Stories was first announced in 2012 and trickled out to Europe in 2013.
Where: 575 Broadway, right near Prada.
When: Sometime at the end of the year.
Why It's Exciting: First, it's a little cheaper than COS. Writer Lauren Sherman sums it up Fashionista: "If COS appeals to lovers of Jil Sander and Marni, & Other Stories is trying to woo the Acne-obsessed crowd. & Other Stories is definitely a little bit hipper, weirder and out-there than COS, which is a great place to buy work clothes."
