The Brian Atwood flagship on Madison Avenue disappeared without warning in late February, and now WWD is reporting that Steven Madden Ltd. is buying the luxe shoe brand and its contemporary line, B Brian Atwood.
The shoe designer apparently knew that his parent company, The Jones Group Inc., was looking to sell his brand (which also recently dumped the Rachel Roy designer line), so Atwood exercised his buyback option and found an interested partner in Madden. It'll be the company's first foray into high-end footwear.
As for that empty Madison Avenue storefront: It's owned by Jones, which still has brands ranging from Stuart Weitzman to Nine West in its stable. No word on whether any of their brands will fill it, or if Jones will even keep the address, but according to WWD, Atwood is "currently eyeing possible sites for a new flagship."
