Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Cartier's Fifth Avenue flagship (or Fifth Avenue Mansion, if you will) is about to undergo major renovations and is set to close at the end of this month. In the meantime, another store will open on 59th Street and Fifth Avenue, right next to the Apple store's pedestrian plaza. That space will open on April 4th, and the makeover at the main store is expected to be complete in the spring of 2016. Hopefully one of the upgrades is a heightened security system.
