20+ Ways to Spend That Tax Refund on Jewelry at Fragments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome back to What's In Store, a Racked feature where we fill you in on what's in stock at the city's best stores right this second.

Lined in cases of standout jewelry—from strands of black pearls topped with tiny gold snails to shoulder-dusting hand-beaded earrings—Fragments is the "Treat Yo Self" mecca for those whose tastes run more diamond-studded snake bangle than traditional tennis bracelet.

Founder Janet Goldman has been perfecting the shop's mix since 1984, and today you'll find airy rose gold stacking rings and barely-there sapphire pendants nestled alongside fiery opal amulets that wouldn't look out of place on Game of Thrones.

To celebrate the store's 20th anniversary, we stopped by to browse (and try on, and frantically calculate how much Annie's mac and cheese we'd have to eat to buy) the store's latest baubles...and provide plenty of reasons not to deposit that tax refund directly into you savings account.
