Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Open Studio, a Racked feature where we explore the workspaces and showrooms of some of the city's most talented, up-and-coming designers.

Jeweler Gillian Steinhardt began her career as a celebrity stylist and costume designer, so she knows a thing or two about pulling an outfit together with great accessories. Her collections, which are handcrafted in her shared workspace in Tribeca, have been inspired by origami shapes, celestial beings, and the part of the body that's adorned with many of her designs: the right hand.

Take a tour through her studio after the jump to see how she assembles some of her signature pieces, why she's obsessed with buying new tools, and what's on her mood board.
