Though Beacon's Closet officially shut its doors in Williamsburg last Sunday, consignment junkies won't have to be without a north Brooklyn outpost for long. According to the store's website, their new Greenpoint location is slated to open Saturday, March 15.
The new spot on Guernsey Street is less than half a mile from the old North 11th Street locale, but the neighborhood change is significant, as Williamsburg's seen a major shift in its retail scene over the past year. Independents like Mini Mini Market and Cute Attack are out, and more expensive brands like Sandro or large national chains like Urban Outfitters and are taking their place.
"It seems like a lot of landlords are assigning arbitrary pricing to their spaces and just waiting to see what big fish or national chain will come and take the bait," Beacon's Closet founder Carrie Peterson said when the Williamsburg closing was announced.
If you're jonesing for a second-hand fix between now and this weekend, check out the Park Slope and Union Square locations.
