The Elie Tahari sample sale kicked off today at Chelsea Market, with markdowns of up to 70% off. When we were there this afternoon, there was a small crowd sorting through the neat racks of pants, blouses, dresses, jackets, and outerwear in sizes ranging from XS to XL.
Update: We're told prices have been reduced for women's samples (all other merchandise remains the same). The new list for that category is as follows: knits are $19; blouses, sweaters, and bottoms are $39; knit dresses are $49; woven dresses are $69; T Tahari sample dresses are $39; jackets are $99; leathers are $199; handbags are $69; and clutches are $49. (The report that follows is as it was published on Wednesday.)
The blouses ($69) and jackets ($129) are definitely the stars of this sale. In the mix of sensible blazers, you'll find great pieces like a gray structured blazer and a pink eyelet jacket. If you're in the market for a coat to withstand the rest of this crazy weather, there were lots of puffy coats and outerwear is $149.
There were also quite a few leather pieces—we saw women's leather trim pants and blouses for $99, and leather jackets for $299.
Sweaters are $69, and while there was a good color selection, we weren't that impressed. There's also several racks of solid and patterned pants for $69, and colored denim for $39. There is an array of skirts for $69—styles we spotted include pink and orange ombré, perforated leather, and a light green eyelet skirt.
Dresses range from $59 to $109, and there are plenty of styles from casual to draped and floor-grazers.
The shoe selection is pretty small, with flats going for $39 and heels for $49. We spotted mostly 6s, 7s, and 7.5s, and a few solid-colored heels and sandals. You'll notice the selection of accessories is also pretty small. Clutches are $99 and handbags are $129, but there's such a small supply that you should probably check the clothing first, where you have lots of options.
Downstairs is a small menswear section, confined to a couple of racks. Short-sleeved dress shirts are $39 while long-sleeved versions are $49 Sweaters are $69 and blazers and lightweight jackets are $99, while the rest of the men's outwear is $149.
