We checked out the friends and family preview for the Joie, Equipment, and Current/Elliott sample sale, which opened to the public at 260 Fifth Avenue this morning, and found plenty of warm sweaters for winter, silky blouses for the office, and an array of denim for casual outings, all at heavy discounts.

Many of the pieces at the sale are true samples, so a lot of what you'll find is a size small—we saw shoppers looking for medium and large silk blouses to no avail. There's a better range of sizes in denim, but most are still samples in a size 27. However, some styles aren't true to size, so try on anything that seems feasible. Damaged items are marked, and while many of the pieces here are in good condition, it would be wise to inspect everything before purchasing.

All of the merchandise is organized by label, and everything is priced as marked on each piece. Clothing from Equipment is along the left-hand wall and going towards the back and you enter, while Joie occupies a couple of racks in the center and Current/Elliott has three full rows nearest to the cash registers, including two long rows of just denim. The Soft Joie pieces are in the back of the room, beside the communal dressing room.

We were able to find lots of good pieces for $50 or under. To name a few, there were two Current/Elliott camisoles with built-in bras for $10 and Equipment silk camisoles for $20, while their short-sleeved silk tops were $45. Joie had a few puffy vests for $45 and lots of colorful, comfy silk pants for $35.

Also in the cheap category were plenty of Current/Elliott's denim, priced at $41, $45 or $50 (normally more than $150). And lastly, everything in the Soft Joie section is under $50: Skirts are $25, and most pants, dresses, and sweaters are $35. This area in particular is a great place to stock up on casuals and basics.

There is a large selection of sweaters—perfect for staying cozy this winter (perhaps sans pants). Soft Equipment cashmere sweaters were $75 each, while those from Joie sweaters went for $50—$60, though embellished styles were $90.

Elsewhere in seasonal merchandise, there's a small selection of jackets and outerwear. A long, dark gray wool sample coat from Joie Holiday 2014 was $100, while all leather outerwear went for $200.

For those heading south for the winter, there are lots of super cute Joie, Soft Joie or Equipment silk bottoms throughout the sale at $30—$40, as well as a small selection of Current/Elliott denim shorts for $35. Colorful Equipment silk dresses are also a nice addition at $60.

There are slim pickings in the accessories section this time around, found on tables by the cash registers. At the preview, there were only a few knee-length wool socks ($45), a couple of furry scarves ($30—$75), and wool headbands ($30).
