Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Black Friday may not be the be-all and end-all of holiday sales (There's Cyber Monday! And every other "take an extra 30% off" email that floods inboxes between now and December 24th.) but it signals that you have less than a month to get your shit together, shopping-wise. And Woodbury Common, anticipating that shoppers will be eager to check some gifts off of their lists, is opening at 10am on Thanksgiving Day and going straight through until 10pm on Black Friday. Which means you can outlet shop for 36 hours, stopping only to take bites of your cold turkey sandwich, if that's what you're into. Or you can do a quick run-through, hit up the best sales, and be out of there in two hours. We've outlined all the Woodbury info you need to know, no matter what your shopping style.

Your Assignment for Today: Game Plan

Imagine a place with the retail density of New York City—minus the cars—where everything is permanently on sale, and you have Woodbury Common. It's easy to walk in, thinking everything is under control, and emerge five hours later with only a cashmere potholder and a freakum dress missing half its sequins to show for it. We suggest scanning a list of the shopping center's outlets and noting the ones you want to target. Looking at an actual map of Woodbury helps, too.

If you really plan on going hard this holiday shopping season, you can sign up to become a Premium Outlets VIP member. It's free to join, and you'll get exclusive coupons online.

Getting There

Now that you know how far Moncler is from La Perla, onto the next step—transportation! If you're driving it may be tough to snag a parking spot. Luckily, Woodbury is offering additional parking off of Exit 17 on the Palisades Parkway, with a shuttle to transport shoppers to and from the outlet center. Representatives from Tommy Hilfiger will be there from 8pm on Thursday through 3am on Friday, handing out complimentary hot beverages.

If you're taking the bus, there are a ton of options, like CitySightsNY, Comfort Bus, Eastern Bus Service, Eight Star Travel, and Gray Line, to name a few. Midtown, Chinatown, and Flushing seem to be popular pickup points, and most fares will run you between $40 and $50 round-trip. For a full list of participating bus lines, go here.

Wake up early. Or just don't go to sleep.

Back in 2011, we spoke to Michele Rothstein, Senior VP of Marketing—otherwise known as "head shopper"—at Premium Outlets. Her tip? Get to Woodbury Common at 3am. "Between 3am and 5am there's a middle-of-the-morning lull," she said. "It actually gets quiet—well, not quiet, but less busy-busy, because the first crop of people have left. And then the next group of people aren't really targeting 3am. Psychologically, they're aiming for 6am."
