There was a lot to choose from at the Barbara Bui sample sale today. We arrived just after the doors opened and we were excited to see such a large selection of shoes and ready-to-wear. Most of the shoppers were huddled around the shoe tables stocked with everything from over-the-knee boots to bright peep-toe platform pumps, with prices starting around $175. Everything at the sale was priced as marked, with discounts up to 85% off. Most of the ready-to-wear was from fall 2013 and older.
The best deals were located on the back racks of the sale and included black jeans for $93, cashmere sweaters with silk panels for $77 and long cashmere sweaters for $177. We also spotted some great deals on leather like a gray and black motorcycle jacket for $418, leather pants starting at $348 and a long-sleeve leather mini dress for $323.
After checking our coats and bags at the door we were greeted with racks of statement pieces, which were more expensive and included fully-embellished bomber jackets for $822, and a yellow leather laser-cut bomber for $999. Among the outerwear we saw a quilted leather puffer with shearling lining for $609, perfect to wear on a frigid day like today. The cape coat from fall 2013 was going for $429, while short wool pea coats in army green were only $324.
If you are in the market for a little black dress, there's no shortage of styles to choose from. Everything from ethereal chiffon gowns ($240) to heavy knit body-con styles ($237-$305) were available in multiple sizes. We also saw crepe dresses with leather panels for $203, lightweight sweaters dresses for $113 and a cape-back crepe style for $253.
An abundance of dress pants were significantly discounted with prices starting at just $48 for white summer styles. We also spotted tweed and pinstripe designs for $51. Blazers ranged in price, starting at $189 for a basic blazer and going up to $428 for a quilted leather-sleeve style. Basic knit tanks were just $20 and fine rib knit turtlenecks were $34, but we only saw these styles in size large.
Skinny leather belts in bright colors started at just $15 but most of the belts were gone by the time we left the sale around 11am. The handbag selection was slim, with only one black style and calf hair bags for $308. The other styles were for everyday use, and colors included red, white and teal.
There was one large fitting room, but a line had formed in the time it took us to check our coats and take one lap around the sale. There are no mirrors in the sale, except for in the fitting room, so be prepared to wait in line. The sales staff was very friendly and helpful, making the wait bearable.
