Discounts Hit Helmut Lang's Sample Sale: Here's What's Left

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Good news for Helmut Lang fans—the organizers at Chelsea Market have taken discounts almost all across the board on this sale's merchandise, and there's still tons of it left. In our perusal of the racks, we only noticed a few styles conspicuously absent since our first visit: all the small bags are now sold out, as well as the oversized black sweatshirt, the shearling coat (which may have even sold out on day one), and that crazy fur coat (though the vest iteration is still around, marked down to $499).

The best markdown so far is on the leather jackets. There's still a wall full of these in multiple colors and sizes for women, and they've gone down in price from $549 to a much more palatable $399. Men's are still more expensive than women's, but are also increasingly appealing at $429, versus their previous $599 price tag. Leather vests are down $100 to $399 (which makes the jackets a better investment), and leather panel tops are down $50 to $149. Otherwise, most of the prices seem to have dropped $20-$30.

Some notable exceptions from the markdowns? Large bags are still $399, shoes are still $249, men's jackets are still $329, and sweaters are still $149. The staff suggested that sweaters might be last to be marked down because some of the styles are still available full-price in Helmut Lang boutiques, so keep that in mind. Additional markdowns may still be forthcoming this weekend, and if we hear about any, we'll be sure to let you know in the comments.
