Turns out the rumors are doubly true: Manhattan is getting not one, but two Lowe's stores. As suspected, they're moving into the old Food Emporium space at the corner of Broadway and 68th Street; the second location is at 635 Sixth Avenue at 19th Street (suspiciously close to Home Depot).
"We know customers in Manhattan are already shopping with Lowe's online and at our New York area stores," Lowe's chief development officer Richard Maltsbarger said in a press release obtained by neighborhood blog West Side Rag. "Based on our research, we are developing these locations to meet the unique needs of these customers."
And according to Lowe's, that's going to include "appliances in a variety of sizes, home organization and storage products to maximize space, and inspiring home décor and accessories to refresh living areas." Sounds like an urban concept shop to us.
The brand's first stores on the island will both measure in at about 30,000 square feet and are slated to open in the second half of 2015.
