The Derek Lam and Derek Lam 10 Crosby sample sale begins at 10 am this morning, but we stopped by for a friends and family preview last night at 151 Wooster St. Our recommendation? Head to the 10 Crosby section in the back for the best deals before checking out Derek Lam's main line.

10 Crosby sweaters ($75) are plentiful and we noticed a variety of styles, including patterned, fuzzy and fisherman knits. For tops ($75), there's a good mix of summer and fall. Expect to see some really printastic tanks, crop tops, sleeveless, strapless and long-sleeved styles.

Dresses ($100) are mostly summer-appropriate, but there are a few fall styles mixed in. We spotted black leather designs, as well as Missoni-like knit dresses. All bottoms, including pants, skirts and shorts, are $75, and highlights include printed drawstring pants and flared black leather skirts.

In the 10 Crosby coat ($150) and jacket ($100) area, look for the super-flattering black tuxedo blazers. One note: you won't find leather jackets hanging out here. For those, head to the 10 Crosby "leather and embroidery" section near the Derek Lam merch. Highlights include gorgeous dark brown and tan leather jackets, 10 Crosby resort and spring 2014 leather bottoms, and even overalls.

Onto the main line! Derek Lam tops ($150) are plentiful and available in a variety of styles. You'll see tanks, cap-sleeve blouses, silk shirts and even bra tops, but most of the styles looked a bit outdated. (There's even merchandise from 2007.) To be fair, we did spot great leather tops for $300 and maroon 3/4 sleeve tops for $150. Sweaters ($200) are also available in a variety of colors, but the 10 Crosby selection at the back is less expensive (and better, in our opinion).

Most shoppers skipped tops entirely and made a beeline for bottoms ($100-$150), dresses ($250) and coats ($350). There are lots of summer options for shorts ($100) and skirts ($150), but the sale's two huge racks of dresses seemed to be the main draw. For the office, find an array of dresses in basic colors and keep your eyes open for leopard print sheaths for $250. There are plenty of summer styles in the mix as well. As for jackets and coats, you'll see denim, leather, cropped and mid-length options.

Now shoes! They're definitely worth a browse, with lots of fall and summer designs. (Think oxfords, sandals, sneakers, heels and leather boots.) The majority of the shoes are Derek Lam and prices range from $75-$150 depending on the brand and style. Keep in mind that most of the shoes come in size 7. The staff did tell us, however, that there are some styles available in sizes 9 and 10.

As for accessories, don't bother looking at their small selection of bags ($50-$400)—none of the styles looked current. Hats, belts and scarves are $50, but we recommend skipping this section altogether and checking out eyewear near the registers instead. There are lots of flattering styles—including Audra, Amari and Felix shades—all for $50.

Warning: the "fitting" room is a space at the back with four large mirrors. There are no curtains for privacy so be prepared to take off your clothes in front of other shoppers. The sale runs through Wednesday. For more information, check the Dealfeed below. —Gemma Kim
