Welcome to Dress Code, a feature where we pick a New York event and ask three of our favorite shops to solve the what-do-I-even-wear-to-that dilemma.
A sneak peek at Babel Fair's look
Basketball season just kicked off this month, and while comfort is key if you're trekking to Madison Square Garden (and navigating stadium seating while balancing three servings of buffalo wings), Knicks games tend to skew a bit fancier than your average NYC sporting event. We have a few theories about this. One: you're sitting indoors, so your outfit isn't subject to the weather. Two: You're likely to run into Rihanna or Cara Delevingne. Three: Fashion designers court NBA players more than any other other professional athletes—just ask Amar'e Stoudemire. (Or LeBron James. Or Kevin Durant.)
That's why we tapped a few of our favorite boutiques—Coop + Spree, Anthom, and Babel Fair—to put together three perfect game-day looks. From an off-orange skirt dressed down with a fashion jersey, to a slick leather jacket in Knicks blue, see—and shop!—their picks, in the gallery.
Where: Anthom
What: House of Sunny black mesh tunic, $250; Kimen burgundy pleated shorts, $255; Random piece gray pony hair sneakers, $165; Chiyome gray shoulder bag, $295
Why: "I chose this look because of its minimal sophistication and sporty textures," Anthom employee Kate Greene says. "It's something I'd wear to the game but also running around town."
Where: Coop + Spree
What: Anine Bing dark charcoal moto jeans, $248; Doma electric blue motorcycle jacket, $646; Twenty white boyfriend tee with rolled sleeves, $70; Bajra Coop + Spree custom navy and black cashmere scarf, $325; Lizzie Fortunato 'Circus Kaleidoscope' bag, $380
Why: "I picked the Doma leather jacket since it's super soft and in Knicks blue—a great way to rep the team colors," Coop + Spree owner (and Knicks superfan) Brooke Richman says of her game-day look. "Above all else, I have to be comfortable at games so that's why I chose my coziest Twenty boyfriend tee and Anine Bing moto jeans—they feel like leggings!"
Where: Babel Fair
What: Babel Fair pink varsity dress, $103.20; Babel Fair white varsity tee, $79.20; Babel Fair black mesh bomber, $111.20; Babel Fair black leather square backpack $239.25
Why: "Knicks fans till we die. But blue and orange aren't our colors," Babel Fair owner Erica Kiang says of her go-to basketball game look. "Who said sporty has to be masculine?"
