The parade—and your stomach—will have barely settled by the time Macy's opens this Thanksgiving: For the second year in a row, the department store will kick off Black Friday sales one day early, and they're sucking two more hours out of the holiday than last year, by opening at 6pm.
Naturally, the people affected most by this are the thousands of retail workers who weren't planning on having their holiday cut short—however, CNN Money reports that Macy's will schedule as many employees who have volunteered for the Thanksgiving shift as possible.
"We also heard last year from many associates who appreciated the opportunity to work on Thanksgiving so they could have time off on Black Friday," said a rep for Macy's in a prepared statement.
Though it's safe to assume the new hours will go into effect at all Macy's locations, we've reached out to a rep to confirm that the Herald Square, Downtown Brooklyn, and Bronx locations will observe the updated schedule and will report back when we receive confirmation.
The workers will also be receiving "incentive pay"—no word on whether that "incentive" involves stuffing and pumpkin pie.
