Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

With condos rising up along Williamsburg's waterfront at a rapid pace, it only makes sense that the neighborhood has experienced something of a home goods boom in the past few years. And out of all the décor spots to stake their claim on North Brooklyn lately (SmallHome, Cucina & Tavola, Home of the Brave) our favorite is Beam—a tiny (but packed!) boutique inside the 240 Kent Avenue mini-mall that's earning a Racked Award for its outstanding qualities.

The owners toe the line between fanciful and functional, stocking the shelves with desk organizers shaped like ships, fluorescent Lucite lamps, and trompe l'oeil slipcovers (in case you want to cover that Ikea chair with a photo-realistic print of another, fancier chair).

Beam also offers interior design services, both large and small—whether you want to reupholster that Chesterfield in blue velvet or really can't decide which shade of greige to paint your living room.
