You Can Only 'Buy' Fragrance Samples at the Marc Jacobs Shop

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Yesterday, we received news that a Marc Jacobs pop-up shop was opening in Soho just in time for Fashion Week. The gimmick: shoppers would be able to purchase and walk out with merchandise by "paying" in social media (Tweets, Instagrams, and Facebook posts with a special hashtag.) There will also be giveaways where you could win accessories throughout the day.

Does that sound too good to be true? That's what we thought, so we double checked that you'd be able to walk out with merchandise after it was "purchased." Today, we've found out that the merchandise is just Daisy fragrance samples. If you want to leave with a bag, or something better than a fragrance sample, you have to win it.

As mentioned in our previous post, we'll be scoping it out at the press preview the night before on February 6th—we'll report back on how large the samples are.
