This week, Alexandra Jacobs checked out the new Rent the Runway showroom at Henri Bendel. On the reality of renting and not owning, she writes: "I thought of Ilene Beckerman's 1995 memoir, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, which tells in charming line illustration of the special-occasion outfits the author had bought, borrowed and occasionally sewn herself over the course of her long, full life. Would the book resonate so powerfully if Ms. Beckerman had crowd-sourced her formal wear, saving an iPad slideshow to pass down to her daughters in lieu of a hope chest?" [NYT]
