Opening Ceremony's Pier 57 pop up doesn't open 'til tomorrow, but the retailer is already thinking bigger. The boutique will open a full-time outpost at the pier—which is definitely being branded as SuperPier, sigh—in 2015.
OC will be joined by an André Balazs-owned spa concept and a "bouldering facility similar to a rock climbing venue" called Brooklyn Boulders (despite definitely being in Manhattan) as the debut tenants for the space, which was originally billed as an "urban mall."
The store will be front and center and consist of "a cluster of 10 large [shipping] containers hanging over the doorway," explains the development group. "It's a very interesting configuration and very Opening Ceremony."
The developer hopes that the always-ahead-of-the-curve store will set the retail tone for the pier. Other tenants they hope to land range from lesser known brands—the developer is in Asia scouting—to "everyone from Adidas to DKNY," both of whom Opening Ceremony has recently collaborated with. But when it comes to more traditional brands, they better bring some edge to SuperPier: "We wouldn't want a retailer to duplicate what they do on Fifth Avenue or Madison Avenue."
