Crunch has its sights set on Crown Heights and Bushwick, and according to DNAinfo, that's just the tip of the iceberg for Brooklyn neighborhoods beyond Park Slope and Fort Greene. Crunch plans to open a dozen "Crunch Essential" clubs in the area—the fitness center's budget option that starts at cheaper monthly rates (some as low as $10), and are devoid of any frills.
A staffer told DNAinfo: "The Crunch Essential [gyms] are made to compete with Planet Fitness' low price range. We don't have steam rooms or saunas or towel service, but all the machines are pretty much the same." The Crown Heights spot, at 842 Lefferts Avenue, is scheduled to open in early November, however, there's currently a stop work order on the location, as the building currently lacks the necessary permits.
