Rent the Runway's warehouse sale featuring gently-used and retired party dresses is back for another season at 260 Fifth Avenue. Those in need of updated pieces for autumn social engagements, holiday fetes, and destination weddings, will find the sale chock full of solid contenders. Prices are up to 95% discounted from retail, but the 75% to 85% off range represents the majority of deals.
The racks were bursting at the seams upon this morning's opening with mostly spring and summer pieces, but there was also a solid selection of darker hued, sleeved, and bedazzled dresses that won't be out of place during the upcoming cooler seasons. Every piece is helpfully marked with before-and-after pricing, so it's pretty easy to evaluate the deals on offer. As per usual at Rent the Runway sales, each piece needs to be thoroughly inspected for wear-and-tear (and outright damages) sustained during their prior lives.
Maxi dresses and gowns lined the left the wall of the showroom, where they were organized by size. Shorter dresses occupied the rest of the sales floor, with one or two long rows dedicated to each size (sizes 0 through 14). Some styles were plentiful with multiples of each size available, while others were more rare and eagle-eyed shoppers were quickly sweeping them up.
There is an impressive volume of dresses under $100. Brands spotted at that price point included Milly, Kate Spade, Nicole Miller, and Alice by Alice Temperly. On the luxe end, there were dresses by Armani, Missoni, Prabal Gurung, and racks of Herve Leger bandage dresses, all in the $200 to $700 price range. Specific price callouts are in the gallery above.
Nearly all of the visible wear is marked with colorful strips of tape, but between grabby shoppers and too-full racks, those pieces of tape won't stay on for long. Be sure to check all zippers and buttons.
Fitting rooms are plentiful, but expect to wait. This morning the line quickly ballooned. While you wait, be sure to check out a very limited selection of clutches and fancy baubles near the cash registers, priced around 35% to 50% off retail prices.
The sale kicked off today and continues daily from 11am to 8pm through Saturday, October 5th, and from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, October 6th at 260 Fifth Avenue between 28th and 29th Streets. All bags and coats must be checked upon entrance—Kiran
