Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to our search for New York City's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile twenty-two smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite.

Never thought to try pole dancing? We bet these photos of instructor Marlo Fisken will persuade you to sign up for a class immediately. In addition to teaching at Body & Pole in Chelsea, Marlo recently launched her own exercise and apparel brand called Flow Movement. She's been a trainer since the age of 18, but has been teaching dance since she was just 15 years old. Look familiar? Perhaps you've seen her flexing on these VitaminShoppe billboards.

What classes do you teach, and which is your favorite?

I teach pole fitness, acrobatic conditioning, and flexibility classes in New York and around the world. Over the course of my teaching career, I have taught many different types of fitness classes, ranging from body rolling classes to hip hop dance, Pilates, and interval training.

My favorite classes to teach are advanced level pole classes, as they are a creative challenge for me and my students because the possibilities are limitless. Once people have strong foundations, we're able to create new challenges—both physical and creative. I can incorporate skills from many different techniques, such as acrobatic floor work, knowledge of alignment and strength training, Pilates, yoga, physics, etc.'

Tell us a fun fact about you that people might not know?

I am obsessed and in love with orangutans and am going to work at an orangutan orphanage in Borneo later this year.
