Saks' biannual Consolidation Sale kicked off its summer session two weeks ago, so we stopped by to see if it was still worth the voyage to the ninth floor. Short answer: if you're looking for seriously discounted designer names, yes. There is still a ton of merch, and it's still ridiculously marked down. Keep in mind, prices started at astronomical numbers, so even at massive discounts, we didn't spot anything that rang in under three digits.
There is a huge concentration of brands like St. John, Armani, Michael Kors and Piazza Sempione. You'll also find a good amount of Stella McCartney, Marni, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, and Yigal Azrouel.
A few highlights we spotted in these well-populated sections were flower brocade blazers and skirts by Stella McCartney, striped pieces from Marc Jacobs' stellar spring collection (which you can take home for under $300), and a pair of Burberry jackets at $867 for a leather bomber and $1,090 for a metallic trench.
Other designers you'll spot—with much less to choose from—include Jason Wu, Peter Pilotto, Chloe, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. A few gems we found included a Tess Giberson sweater for $135 (from $450) and a Peter Pilotto sweater for $235.50. Almost everything from these designers is piece by piece without much of a repeat in styles.
Down on the shoe floor, we spotted about a dozen styles of Chanel options including heeled sandals for $390 (from $975). Long gone are the $250 Chanel ballet flats we spotted last time. There is still plenty of stock left for all sizes, and designers we saw a lot of included Jimmy Choo, Tabitha Simmons, Brian Atwood, and Miu Miu.
Overwhelmingly, the shoes on sale fall into the category of statement footwear: think lots of electric purple, contrasting colorblock, and metallic options. Example prices in this section include Celine loafers for $455 and $626 and a pair of Miu Miu pumps for $236.
