Welcome to our search for New York City's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile twenty-two smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite.

Winter Gabriel has been a trainer for the past ten years, and her background in dance and musical theater is just one of the reasons why she's a great instructor at The Sport Center at Chelsea Piers. She teaches cardio dance classes, sculpt-and-tone type classes, and barre workout classes—the latter of which is out of the new Mind Body Studio. Though she's been told her sessions are pretty tough (you don't get legs like those by sitting on the couch), she leads them with positivity, enthusiasm, and a big smile.

What made you want to become a trainer?

I was a professional dancer/musical theatre performer for ten years prior to my gym career. I would often lead exercise classes before and after our shows, in the hotel hallways we stayed at, while traveling. My first job as a dancer was at a hotel resort and after the show finished, I was hired to run their exercise program.

I was always drawn to exercise and fitness, and eventually combined my expertise as a dancer with several fitness certifications and began my fitness career! I love working with people, helping to motivate them through dance and exercise to reach their fitness goals. I love the energy and friendships within the gym, and believe exercising the body and mind regularly keeps us healthy, happy, and forever young!

What's one piece of advice everyone should hear before beginning a new workout?

My best advice when starting a new workout is to give yourself a few chances to adapt to the movements, and choose an instructor that challenges you as well as inspires you!

Tell us a fun fact about you.

I met my husband while teaching a class at the gym. There is something incredibly sexy about watching a man do a barre workout—especially in spandex! Fast forward ten years and two kids later, and I'm still dancing.
