Tribeca: land of niche fitness options. The latest addition to the neighborhood's sweat selection is Superstar Gym, which uses all custom-made European equipment. The highlight is the Fitwalker: a treadmill that is powered by your movement—not electricity—and is apparently big in Italy. The machines are designed for group workouts which are lead by an instructor and feature upbeat tunes. So it's like spin class, but for walking.
As a little welcome to America treat, the studio is offering free demo sessions through Sunday. Starting next week, group classes—which will range from dance-based to "hardcore"—will cost $30 a pop.
