Nothing Is Over $50 at the Oonagh By Nanette Lepore Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There are two great reasons to shop the Oonagh By Nanette Lepore sample sale. First, if you'd like to perk up your wardrobe with a few new pieces of summer sportswear, you'll find plenty of cute designs from Lepore's casual Oonagh line—and none cost more than $50. The second reason to make a pilgrimage over to the West 35th Street sale, is that although it's dubbed an Oonagh sale, you'll also find plenty of samples from the designer's higher priced Nanette Lepore line—and none of these run over $50 either. We stopped by yesterday while the staff was preparing for the sale, and got the lowdown on what you can expect. The main part of the sale is composed of stock from the Oonagh line, with all sizes available. You'll find jersey knits in abundance, with tank tops for just $15 and t-shirts ranging from $20-$25. Short jersey knit dresses are only $30, while maxi dresses and jackets are $40.

If you're looking for Oonagh pieces in other fabrics, the prices are only slightly higher. Silk shorts and cotton skirts run $35. Silk tops, cotton dresses and dramatic silk maxi skirts (our favorite pieces at the sale) are all just $40. Make sure to check out the sailor style linen slacks for $45 and a selection of cute silk dresses for $50.

Nanette Lepore samples are on racks along the far wall of the sale. This time around, they completely line both sides of an aisle. Although we recognized a small selection of samples from the last Nanette Lepore sale—including a lot of corset tops—the majority of the pieces were making their sample sale debut. You'll find lots of summer knitwear, both sweaters and dresses, for just $40 each. There is also one rack of blazers priced at $50 and one of pants at $35. Most samples are size two or unmarked, but they don't always run true to size, so if you see something you like, make sure to try it on.

As for accessories, don't bother to come looking for purses, because you won't find them. But if you're searching for belts, they range from $5 to $50. And various pieces of jewelry, including small rhinestone tiaras used on the runway, are in the $20 range.

Also straight from the runway is a selection of custom made shoes. These were designed specifically for the models to wear on the runway, and most were never put into production. The selection includes striking platforms, towering heels and even some colorful flats. They're all priced at just $40 a pair. We spotted a lot of size 40s, but there are other sizes, as well.—Bonnie Datt
