Details on Urban Outfitters' massive Herald Square store are starting to emerge. WWD reports that the new location—which is over twice the size of the average "big" Urban Outfitters store—will be a three story "lifestyle center." What that entails isn't clear, but a real estate exec on the project said there will be "features never before seen from the brand." Exactly which brand under the Urban Outfitters umbrella (which includes Anthropologie, Free People, BHDLN, and Terrain) will fill the space has not been specified.
The stretch of Broadway from Herald Square to Times Square clears out once office workers head home for the day and the Halal carts close up. This store has the opportunity to develop the neighborhood into, well, a real neighborhood—or at least an extended tourist shopping district. The real estate company that worked out this deal with Urban has a few other properties in the area that they hope to fill with stores and restaurants.
