Crown Heights sneaker shop Rugged Sole has transitioned to a new identity complete with a new name: Alumni. Noticing a change in clientele, the owners decided to give the shop—which has almost two decades of sneaker slinging under its belt—a complete overhaul.

The redesigned interior focuses on flexibility, allowing the space to change as the merchandise does. Brands stocked include Stussy, Billionaire Boys Club, Only NY, and Joy Rich. In a changing neighborhood, it's interesting to see store owners find savvy ways to embrace—and profit from—an equally evolving product category.
