Academy Annex—the Brooklyn counterpart to Academy Records—is bringing more than just vinyl to their new Greenpoint location. After a decade of side-by-side storefronts on Williamsburg's North Sixth Street, children's store Flying Squirrel will join the record store at 83 Oak Street. At 4,000 square feet, there will be plenty of room for both businesses, which will be joined by a pass-through to allow cross-shopping.
"Oak Street is gorgeous and it's a friendlier community and cleaner, as opposed to N. 6th Street, which is packed with tourists. It's no fun to be here at all anymore," said Flying Squirrel owner Kate Schmitz. The new, larger space will allow for more space to hang out, complete with coffee, tea, snacks, a play area, and dedicated breast-feeding and diaper changing space. Rock on.
