The biannual Saks Consolidation Sale officially begins today—so naturally we stopped by a day early to check out the presale. If the crowd we dealt with a day before the official sale was any indication for what's to come, expect mayhem. But if 70% off major designers like Proenza Schouler and Stella McCartney is what you're after, it's worth braving.

On our way over to the express Consolidation Sale elevator—yes, Saks has reserved an elevator that goes straight to the 9th floor—we paused to check out the bag department. What we found in terms of sale merch was meek (if you're looking for discounted bags, head to Barneys or Bergdorfs). We did spot a couple Chloes, a Valentino, and way too many metallic Jimmy Choos. Overall, nothing to write home about.

Once we stepped off the express elevator, we found that the entire ninth floor was dedicated to discounted designer goods. What's more is that everything has been arranged by brand—helpful when you need to act quickly in a frenzied crowd.

Designers on offer include Erdem, Derek Lam, Celine, Saint Laurent, Dior, and everything in between. This sale is all about high-end designer labels; that means no Vince, Carven, or Alexander Wang up in here. But when you can snag a Saint Laurent dress that was originally $2,390 for $717, we'd say taking a trip to Saks today is well worth it.

Other notable pieces spotted include a Proenza Schouler sweater for $173, a Sacai dress for $284, a Dior dress for $585, and a sweet pair of Chloe shorts for $405. We also noticed two large racks filled with pieces by Stella McCartney, as well as a hefty helping of all things Marc Jacobs. While prices aren't dirt cheap, brands are premium—you can even walk away with Chanel shoes.

We said the magic word, so we won't leave you hanging. The shoe floor still had a ton of sale left, with some pretty sick pairs to boot. The same 70% off applies, excluding Chanel, Dior, and Louboutin, which are just 60% off. We found a pair of cork Jimmy Choo flats for $128, Brian Atwood pumps for $174, a pair of Lanvin high-tops for $215, silver Marni sandals for $221, and classic Chanel ballet flats for just $250.—Claudia Saide
