Bergdorf Goodman Summer Markdowns, From Alaïa to Acne

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Bergdorf Goodman summer sale is in full swing, so we wandered on over to get the scoop on what's good. Right away, we were delighted by the way the main floor was set up, lending one single room to all sale merchandise. So we parked in the space usually allocated for Céline and Saint Laurent bags and began to explore.

First thing's first, the bags. Everything is marked down to 50% off (more than last week's 40% discount at Barneys), and there's a nice selection from which to choose. We found bags by Chloé, Louboutin, Lanvin, Victoria Beckham, Nancy Gonzalez and Bottega Veneta. Sorry, no Céline or Chanel, but that's to be expected. Prices you'll face are $829 for a pony hair Proenza, $489 for a white leather Bottega Veneta clutch, and a whopping $1,999 for a Chloé purse.

Other pricey treats you will find here include a selection of really cool Valentino Lucite cuffs for $469 and those classic Lanvin pearl necklaces for $369. There are Missoni scarves for $299, as well as some funky McQueens for $279. Oh, and there are hats too—if you feel like spending $119 on a summer fedora.

As we made our way up the escalator toward shoes, we noticed a large 60% off sign facing us, however we quickly learned that this sign was not meant for the shoes that stood behind it, but rather for the clothing on that same floor. We did, however, learn that most shoes are 50% off.

This includes an array of sizes and styles, like Manolo Blahnik peep-toe flats for $363, Balenciaga booties for $438, and a few different styles by Alaïa. Don't get too excited, though—these are still a bloody fortune with the discount. If you're in the market for a pair from Saint Laurent, Celinéline, Louboutin, or Chanel, you'll only save 30%.

5F is undeniably the most reasonable floor at Bergdorf, with brands like Vince, Acne, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Alexander Wang. Two sections are designated for sale apparel, one smaller area for 40% off, and one corridor filled with pieces for 60% off.

The 40% off section is comprised of clothing racks arranged by designer, and a wall lined with a ton of denim. The clothing discounted at 60% is arranged by category, and although this can be tougher to sort through, the digging can be well worth it if you find your treasure. Some great pieces we saw include a reversible leather jacket by Helmut Lang for $449, a floral Milly mini for $89, a Cut25 leather and denim vest for $299, and an Equipment blouse for $109.

We also noticed a ton of knits by DVF and T by Alexander Wang, and a rack of party dresses with pieces by Carven and Victoria by Victoria Beckham. .

If you're looking for steeper discounts, Bergdorf's website is boasting sale merchandise with a markdown of up to 75% off, but the deal's online only.—Claudia Saide
