Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

As far as Friday's go, today's is kind of a bummer: it's barely 60 degrees, raining, and tropical storm Andrea is apparently shooting up the coast. What better way to say TGIF than with five island cocktails you can make in the comfort of your own apartment. The recipes are all straight from shoe designer Paul Mayer's latest book, Shoe Chic and Bottoms Up!, and were inspired by twenty years worth of vacations to the Royal Hawaiian.

One fresh pineapple (cored and sliced into ¼ inch rings)
8 ounces of premium vodka
8 ounces of Malibu rum

Pour vodka and rum over pineapple and let soak overnight in pitcher. Strain through a sieve (or cheese cloth) and pour over crushed ice. Garnish with a piece of pineapple and serve in fresh mini pineapples or tumblers.

4 ounces of blood orange juice
2 ounces of premium vodka
1 ounce of Campari
Splash of seltzer

Pour vodka, Campari and orange juice into a shaker full of ice. Shake then pour into rocks glass. Garnish with orange wedge and add splash of seltzer.

4 ounces of club soda
2 ounces of Square One Cucumber Vodka
1 cucumber peeled, seeded and muddled
Juice of ½ lemon
Juice of ½ lime
2ounces of simple syrup
Splash of 7-Up

Pour vodka, club soda, cucumber, and somple syrup into a shaker full of ice. Add fresh lemon and lime juice, shake and pour into tall frosted glass. Add splash of 7-Up and thinly sliced cucumbers. Serves two.

2 ounces of Cointreau
4 ounces of blueberry vodka, shaken, chilled, and strained
2 Maraschino cherries

Pour vodka, Cointreau into a shaker full of ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

1 shot of best brandy or cognac
1 cup of chocolate milk

Pour milk in a tumbler or your favorite glass, add the best brandy or cognac you can find in the house. Sip and sleep!
