Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Last night, we stopped by 260 Fifth Avenue for a preview of the Equipment, Joie, and Current/Elliott megasale. The sheer magnitude of the stock available, combined with seriously discounted prices, make for a pretty good one. The Joie and Current/Elliott items are almost all actual samples—if you wear a size small or a 4 in bottoms, you can walk away with one of only two or three available in each style. You also have to be amenable to removing stray safety pins left over from fittings and design.

Joie appears to be the our overall favorite at the sale. There are lots of designs available, and at very affordable prices. Skirts and shorts are $30, including cute pleated peach maxis. Tops, including long-sleeves, short-sleeves, and lightweight knits, are $45. Dresses are $50, sweaters are $50, and fur is $150.

Soft Joie merchandise is an even bigger bargain, with nothing priced above $35. Tanks are $20, and shorts, skirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, and tops are all $25. Rompers are marked at $30. Dresses, jackets, jumpers, and pants are each $35. Note though that some of these sweatshirts are a little damaged.

We also spotted tons of cute Equipment garb. Colorful tops are $50. Shorts are $30, and pants are just $35. Dresses, rompers and sweaters are $75. PJ pants are $25. Ironically, PJ robes and PJ sets are the brand's most expensive offering, along with leather for $100.

There is literally a rainbow of options on the Current/Elliott racks, as well as the only non-sample sizing. Denim is marked at just $41. Choices include floral prints, pastels, bright pink, and army green jeans. Shorts, skirts, and sweatshirts are $35. Jackets, which are mostly denim, run at $45. Sample pants and sweaters are $50 and leather is $150. A limited number of tops are available for $30.

Ladies may bring in up to 10 items into the communal fitting room. Be warned, though, that nothing will be held for you while you are in there, so you either need to try clothes on in shifts or bring a friend to hold your overflow.

This also means that you should save your accessory shopping for last. There are some sandals, booties, heels and bags available as impulse buys while you wait on line for the register. Booties are $50 and heels are $60. Small leather bags are $56 and large leather bags are $110.

The sale will not be restocked, and since it's full of one-of-a-kind samples, we suggest you get there ASAP if you're planning to attend. The sale runs from 9am to 7pm today, and goes through Saturday at 260 Fifth Avenue. See the dealfeed below for the full list of times.—Jessica Wisniewski
