Franklin, the Pig Mascot of Crest Hardware, Is Mostly a Vegan

New, 4 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This is Store Sidekicks, our new video feature in which we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures who inhabit shops around the city.

One of our absolute favorite store sidekicks of all time is Franklin, the miniature pot-bellied pig who belongs to the owners of Crest Hardware & Urban Garden in Williamsburg. Franklin has his own cult following, in part because he sometimes wears clothes.

In the video above, store owner Joe Franquinha explains that Franklin mostly follows a vegan diet, likes to cuddle while watching TV, and that the idea to adopt him came from Franquinha's girlfriend, Liza. He also has his own Facebook.
