The highly anticipated Rachel Comey sample sale is stocked to the max with shoes. We stopped by the friends and family preview Wednesday to bring you the inside scoop. The verdict? It's worth waiting in the line that will inevitably form outside the sale. With nearly every current shoe style available at well below retail, you'll want to get there as soon as possible.
A large selection of shoe styles including booties, flat sandals, clogs, loafers, and oxfords were priced at $100 per pair, or 3 pairs for $250. They stock was organized by size, with generous helpings of sizes six, seven, and ten. Elsewhere, boxes marked $50 include finds like floral cloth shoes and leather styles with a vintage vibe.
Current season styles were in shoe boxes and priced from $200 to $315. The brand's signature Mars style was available in a rainbow of brown, camel and nude hues. The men's shoe selection was considerably smaller than the women's, but included both casual and dressy styles.
A handful of clothing racks lined the back wall and offered dresses, pants and sweaters from past seasons for $25 to $100. We spotted a denim ombre dress for $100 and a floor length halter dress for $50. The $25 items were in two boxes on the floor. Spring '13 styles were individually priced, with the average discount hanging around 40% off of retail price.
While the selection was thrilling, the atmosphere was not. The sale was so hot, even the dog roaming the gymnasium was exhausted by the heat. Be sure to dress appropriately and hydrate often.—Christina DeSmet
