This morning, the Nili Lotan sample sale was crowded with brand loyalists hungry for a second helping of marked-down goods from the Tribeca-based designer. Shoppers yesterday were apparently promised a comprehensive restock, which was still underway when the doors opened today. Many of the return customers were looking for pants, which, at only $30, were considered the best deal of the sale.
Despite the restock, the sale is still relatively small. There are six racks of clothing, all organized by color. Whites dominate, with loads of long-sleeved cotton maxi dresses ($100), ruffled button-down shirts ($90), and sailor-style short linen dresses ($90). There are also a good selection of blacks and greys—much of which consisted of the long-sleeved maxi dresses that we saw in white ($100) and linen jackets ($180). Those looking for color will find red and magenta silk pieces ($100-$120), and some bright checked shirts.
Cottons are definitely the best deals: there are tees for $10-$20, shorts for $20, and pants (including denim) for $30. They were heavily picked over when we visited the sale this morning, but the staff said they would be restocking throughout the day. Sweaters seem to be the least-discounted pieces: $150 for full sweaters and $100 for sweater-tanks.
There are two dressing rooms, but don't count on any privacy. Women were squeezing into the rooms together and trying on items in the middle of the sale floor. The sale is cash only, and the closest ATM has a maximum withdraw amount of $100, so come prepared.—Mallory Farrugia
