If you're in need of a glimpse of summer sunshine on this dreary Monday, look no further than this week's Tory Burch sample sale, which kicked off at 2pm this afternoon for a surprise early opening. We stopped today and found racks and shelves chock full of leather handbags, textured driving shoes, gingham dresses, and linen skirts. The pricing is consistent with past Tory sales, so be prepared to score 60% to 75% off retail.
The highlight is the arsenal of brightly colored handbags. Offering candy colored leather totes, embroidered raffia beach bags, and basic black and brown pieces, this one has something for everyone. Prices start at $95 for a straw pom-pom embellished clutch and top out at $295 for larger leather totes. We expect the pom-pom embellished beach bucket bags to move quickly at $150.
As for ready-to-wear, there's a full spread of sizes and an array of options. Styles vary depending on size, but the frocks are plentiful across the board and are priced at $150. Our favorites are the gingham and chambray options that would be universally flattering and just oozed sunshine. There were also several maxi styles for your next resort vacation and embellished silk dresses for all of those upcoming weddings.
Just as numerous were the silky tops that were available in every color and pattern, priced from $65 to $95 depending on the style. Just don't go to this sale looking for a signature Tory embellished tunic—they were few and far between, and the few styles we did spot were flying off the racks and kind of lackluster.
The pièce de résistance was the uber boho Gatlin skirt in a textured linen, priced at $85. There were also some buttery cropped leather jackets priced at $250 that were getting a lot of love on the sales floor. One lucky girl will get to take home a lonely zippered trench for $225 (there was only one piece in a size 0).
The shoe display is slim and not so attractive, offering only a handful of styles. There's a couple of basic pumps for $150, black and white Reva fats for $99, and Casey driving shoes in a few colorways for $125.
Check out our photo gallery for a full price list and some other highlights. Space in the communal fitting room is ample, and all bags must be checked. The sale continues at Clothingline (261 West 36th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues) through Saturday, June 15th. Hours are 11am to 7pm weekdays (including today) and 11am to 5pm Saturday.—Kiran
