The Comme des Garçons Archival Sale Will Blow Your Mind

New, 30 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

If you have plans tomorrow, you really oughta cancel them because the Comme des Garçons archival sale is better than you can even imagine. It is literally an avant-garde's dream playground.

Where do we even begin? For starters, if you are planning to attend (which you really, really should) we advise you to get there as early as you can get your butts out of bed. 6am would not be out of the question; we expect there to be a crowd of diehard CdG fans forming by that time. This has nothing to do with our concern of stock running out (more on that in a moment)—it's because you will want to get first dibs on the many one-of-a-kind pieces the sale has to offer.

Back to the amazing amount of merchandise. The sale takes place in a massive Chelsea space, and every bit of the floor has been utilized to bring us Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe for CdG, eYE, CdG Black, and Tao and more. The right side of the floor is where the men's clothing resides, and the left is where you will find womenswear, but feel free to be androgynous in your choices. The center of the floor holds shoes as well as the Comme des Garçons Black collection, which is 50% off. Everything else is 70% off the original price.

There are racks upon racks of unique coats and jackets, classic CdG harem pants, ornate skirts, crisp blouses, and embellished dresses. We found more than a couple of pieces from the collection that is currently on view at the Chaos to Couture exhibit at the Met—expect to pay around $700 for one of these rare finds.

But before you get lost in this vast sea of racks, check out the huge wooden boxes that hold all sorts of accessories. We saw things like scarves, bags, and hats, as well as CdG dolls and snow globes. They truly left nothing out; well, nothing except for any spring 2013 pieces, but that won't even cross your mind once you see how much you have to choose from.

There is truly something for every single Comme des Garçons fan in the world. If you're tight on funds, not to worry! We found pieces like a $15 Christian Astuguevieille for CdG tote bag, and a whole bunch of CdG Play discontinued tees for about 30 bucks.

If you are a diehard fan who lived off ramen noodles for a month in order to save for this, go for those rare jackets that have only been seen on the runway. For around $500, you can own a CdG piece that nobody else has.

Merchandise will be restocked daily, and the epic sale will come to a close on Monday evening. For a glimpse on what's in store, in terms of price and stock, check out the photos in the gallery above. See the Dealfeed for exact details on time and place, and most importantly, enjoy!—Claudia Saide
