Bags from the last sale
The Comme Des Garçons epic archival sale is set to makes its glorious return on Friday, so now's as good a time as any to get your gameplan in order. For starters, we recommend getting there early, because this is what it looked like on opening day back in 2011. But you knew that already. Instead, let's focus on what you can expect from the merchandise by going over what we've been told by the brand, as well as what was at the infamous sale two years ago.
First up: We know that merchandise will be marked down up to 70% off, and will include all of the Comme des Garçons' brands. The selection will be composed of goods from the past seven to eight years, with some items that have never before been available in New York City.
At the last sale, Junya Watanabe and Tao pieces were marked down to 70% off, and the Black Collection was reduced by 50%. The cheapest deals were the tee shirts (ranging from $30 to $50) and the purses, most of which were vinyl and going for $25 to $90.
Prices for other collections climbed into the hundreds, but diehard fans didn't seem to mind. As our reporter explained, "The brand doesn't consider this a sample sale, but rather an archival one. This stock is made up of a selection of vintage but never-worn clothing that has been preserved over the years. Many of these pieces are collectible. Prices aren't cheap, but they are now a lot more accessible."
A few important things to consider for Friday's sale: stock will be replenished everyday, throughout the day. However, last time around we learned that there were only a limited number of specific items—so if you see something you really really want, grab it just in case it's not restocked.
