The MCM sample sale opened at 10am this morning at the Affinia Dumont hotel in Murray Hill, and there was already of a line of about forty people when we got there at 9:45am. We totally expected that there would be a wait, but we did not anticipate to be standing outside for over an hour.
We didn't make it inside until 11:15. The reason for this? The MCM team seemed to be allowing only five people in at a time once the initial fifteen made it upstairs. If you are a fan of the German brand, we would say it's worth the trip.
When we finally got up to the third floor hotel room, we found a significant amount of stock. The merchandise seemed split pretty evenly between women's and men's accessories, perhaps a bit more for the ladies. And as far as the discounts go, expect to be saving 70% to 80% off original prices. There is no set price list, however everything is ticketed with both the original and discounted price, so you know what you are saving.
There are a ton of bags, a big pile of wallets, some luggage, and even some men's ties. We picked up a blue python hobo that was originally $2,550 marked down to $475. There was also a nice selection of classic croc-embossed calfskin bags for around $300, marked down from around $1,600.
In regards to the wallets and small accessories, expect to pay as low as $25 for a small leather coin purse, and as high as $200 for a larger, more embellished wallet. We spotted quite a few of the Mina Zip wallets marked down from $350 to $140.
The main table has a variety of the monogrammed bags the brand is known for We picked one up that was marked down to $439 from $1,445, and there are all different shapes and sizes in this mono print. We noticed a few pieces of luggage in the corner priced at $468 for canvas and $663 for leather. There are also some cute satin clutches that will run you $250 from $1,085.
We were told that they'll be restocking on styles that are already out, but no new merchandise will be brought in. In regards to markdowns, if there is still a ton left on the sale's final day, the odds of further discounts seem pretty good, but no promises.
